Where Merlin fits
Merlin is worth evaluating when collecting material takes longer than producing the first draft. Its documented entry points include a browser extension, web chat, document context and video summaries. That makes the starting question practical: can you get from an open source to a usable note without losing where a claim came from?
Official documentationUse summaries as an index
The YouTube tool is designed to produce a summary while you are on the video page. Treat that result as a way to locate material, not as a replacement for watching the relevant passage. For a research brief, preserve the original video link, check names and numbers, and distinguish the speaker's position from your own interpretation.
Official documentationKeep web research traceable
Merlin documents live web access alongside writing assistance. Internet access alone does not establish that an answer is current or correct. Before reusing an answer, open the cited pages, check their dates and ask whether each source supports the particular sentence you plan to publish.
Official documentationWhat to evaluate
OUR EDITORIAL PERSPECTIVEChoose one article, one PDF and one video you know well. Ask the same concrete question about each, including a detail near the end. Record missing qualifications and unsupported statements, not just whether the answer sounds fluent.
Use a short email brief with names, dates and a constraint on tone. Compare the final edited version with your original. A useful assistant should reduce revision work without quietly changing facts or adding promises you did not make.
Try the intended model and workflow before committing to an annual plan. Record the allowance consumed by long documents, follow-up questions and regenerated answers. A low monthly equivalent is less useful if your normal work exhausts the relevant limit.
Questions before you subscribe
- Can I open and verify the original source behind this answer?
- What allowance applies to this model, long documents and research tasks?
- How do I retain my notes and files outside the assistant?
- Which extension permissions are needed for my workflow?

Sources & freshness
Product facts were reviewed against the official sources below. Automated checks monitor source text; they do not test paid features or certify a provider's claims.
